Bicycle aerodynamic optimization under uncertainty (Mech 498/499)

Bicycle frames, wheels and complete bikes with riders are in most cases optimized for particular on-design conditions; i.e. no cross-wind or a specific cross-wind angle. This project will utilize aerodynamic analysis and design under uncertainty (probabilistic) techniques to carry out optimization considering explicitly the contribution of various off-design conditions in the real world, in order to directly design for those adverse conditions.
